If you are anything like us, your thoughts will already be turning to festival season. Who to see, what to take, what to wear? Festivals have become mini-fashion events as the likes of Kate Moss and Alexa Chung work that rock-mixed-with-street look. It’s time to put away structured and princess-inspired looks and go for something decidedly more carefree. All you need are some key pieces to keep you looking great, and for once in your life don’t worry too much about your hair and make-up. Bed-hair and three day old eyeliner will only earn you more style points. Get ready to rock!
Nothing is easier to wear than cure dress and this Big Bird Elasticated Waist Dress (£18) deserves its own backstage pass. Easy and effortless, team it with some great boots and pull on a denim jacket or a parka if it gets a bit chilly.
Perfect for referencing the Rolling Stones at Glastonbury, our Giant Lips Tee (£13.99) says you’re with the band. Cheeky and flirty, team with denim shorts or skinny jeans to get yourself noticed.
Nothing says rock chick more than denim shorts and these Floral Denim Shorts (£20) are great for showing off just-tanned pins. The floral print takes them up a style notch. Wear with a great T and some boots, or you can even go for a retro trainer for that sports-luxe look.
For the newest new-rave look, and to slip on for a cooler night, we know you will love this Cream Smiley Face Sweat Top (£15). If you want to go for the full hit, add a trucker cap, a glo-stick and a whistle. Why not?
If you want to still be playful and girly, then team a shrunken T with this Colour Clash Paisley Skirt (£19), the print of the season. Add some tough girl boots to sharpen up your look.
No rockin’ look is complete without accessories and it is time to layer up our Stud Cuff Bangle (£10). Wear a few at once to maximise your style impact.
Footwear is all important at festivals. You need something that will go with all of your looks, and that will keep your feet happy, too. These Studded Biker Boots (£36.99) make a change from the obligatory welly, and if they get a little bruised and battered, it just adds to their appeal.
Now all you need is to learn how to put up that tent, which is where our advice ends…

It’s time to go to college. Not here of course, but in the good old U.S.A. It’s all about varsity campus chic. It has a distinct 1990’s feel, so for this one you will be channelling a young Gwyneth Paltrow taking a leafy stroll around Harvard or Yale, listening to Nirvana on her Walkman, long before she discovered yoga and Chris Martin. For hair and beauty you need to keep it natural but us AX girls know that can take longer than any other type of look. Jessica Alba and Rihanna have been rocking this look recently so you will be in good company. Think young, carefree, and the hottest boy on campus offering to carry your satchel. Let class commence……….
The building block for this look is the Neon Base Ball Jacket (£20). Back in the day, if you caught yourself the hottest player on the team, then you would wear his jacket as a sign you were together. How cool is that? Of course, us girls are a bit more independent now but we still love the look. This is the jacket of the season.
Now the 1990’s are back on the style map double denim is allowed, as long as you mix up the shades to keep it fresh. This Denim Long Sleeve Shirt (£22) is so versatile. Wear it buttoned up, or open over a vest top, and if you have a tartan shirt about from last season tie it round your waist.
We couldn’t talk about varsity without including this USA Flag Vest (£7.99). Great with jeans or short, on its own or under the denim shirt, it will earn you extras style merits. Go to the top of the class.
These Denim Jeans With Braces (£30) are the building block for any look and so are a great investment buy. Wear the braces down for a laid back look and add a black bowler hat for some back-to-college chic.
No 1990’s varsity look is complete without theseStud Chelsea Boots (£29.99). Perfect with jeans or a simple, flowery tea dress, they toughen up the look a little and just add to your cool-girl edge.

It started with a picture of Beyonce. Usually bedecked in couture, here was the high priestess of pop in leather leggings and flouro kicks. It made us think, is it time for a re-think? While high-octane dresses still rule evening wear, when it comes to daytime, the designers have been referencing 1990’s culture, only this time grunge gets glam. Sure you wear your pieces casual, but this is no rough-around-the-edges look. It takes a whole lot of effort to look this laid back, and it is perfect for all the festivals lined up over the coming months.
This fab Letter Print Top (£14.99) hits so many trends it’s a fashion wonder. Referencing retro printed logo tops brought bang up-to-date in monochrome, this top is great with cut-offs or leggings for making a home-girl statement.
For casual cool cover ups it’s all about the Neon Pink Baseball Jacket (£20). This is more about street chic than college campus style, but to add a touch of glam add a flash of pink flouro nails and matching trainers
Well if the look is good enough for Beyonce………..these PU Side Leggings (£18) are a great new season purchase as they literally go with everything. Team with a bright top for a daytime, or dress up with a vest and ultimate heels for evening.
Being A/X girls we know you will always like to dress a trend up and this Tie Dye Split Skirt Body Con Dress (£25) is the must-have for this look. The perfect mix of glamour and rock chick chic, it will turn heads and leave a trail of broken hearts in its wake.
Forget ladylike. No kitten heels here. The Chunky Heel Platform Shoe (£36.99) is the perfect statement shoe to channel Courtney Love with a bad girl edge.

This winter has been a great but cold way to end one year and begin another. I spent Christmas at home with my family with a golden tan while hating the British weather after returning from a holiday in Tenerife. A week in the sun was a great treat and a lovely way to celebrate reaching my latest milestone; 6 stone of weight loss. I transformed my life in 2012 and whilst I’ll always be curvy, I changed my life style and began to enjoy exercise and experimenting with fashion for the first time in my life and this is something that will stay with me going into 2013.
I have had a great start to the year so far and really embraced the life goals that I have set out to achieve. 2013 is the year for me to LIVE and to focus on being happy and positive. I am building up my social networks and working really hard to write the best blog that I can. A lot has changed and I really feel that my content and photography has significantly improved since this time last year. I guess I’ve got more confidence with it and that has come from my change in lifestyle. In order to get the most out of life, I want to make the most of my time and I have become a ‘yes’ woman and have already had lots of fantastic experiences; last week I was designing a dress and this week I’m off to interview Claire from Steps!
If 2013 has started like this, then I can’t wait to see how it ends! I’ve got lots to look forward to; my hen week in Zante, a holiday with my fiancé, my wedding preparations, the release of my dress, photo shoots and Jessie J and Girls Aloud concerts. Throw in some spontaneous experiences along the way and 2013 will definitely be a year to remember!

Well it’s officially 2013, and it’s looking set to be a year of change for me. I always get excited at the beginning of the year, it’s a time to stop and appreciate all the things the last year has bought you, but is also a great time to begin getting inspired by the year ahead and embrace aspiration. It’s like a fresh exciting start of a new adventure, an opportunity to make the world your oyster.
Despite embracing the new year and all the opportunities it can bring, i’m actually not one to make myself new years resolutions in the typical style (i’d never actually stick to it, and it’s silly only setting yourself a short term goal which you’ll never keep in the long run). But I have decided to think about a few little things i’d like to focus on this year, things that make me happy or are things I want to achieve. So in the spirit of the New Year and 2013 I thought i’d share some of my aspirations with you.
1. Keep writing mediamarmalade.com & develop my photography
2. Drink more water (!!!)
3. Embrace change and challenge
4. Get a flat with my boyfriend
5. Read books on my commute again
6. Continue to travel the world
7. Make more plans to see friends
8. Maintain my ‘happy’ weight
Are you one for setting yourself new year goals? What are your aspirations for the year ahead?
After an amazing and eventful year for my blog mediamarmalade.com … i’m very excited to see where 2013 will take it.
Wow Christmas feels so long ago now but I had the most amazing one it is totally my fave time of the year. I work in retail so I don’t really get that much time off, I was lucky this year and had Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day off which is soooo rare. I made sure I made the most of my time spending it with my family, eating loads of bad food and watching just as bad telly. I got some amazing presents including the new Kate Moss book which now has pride of place on my coffee table. I just hate Christmas come down though, I dont think I will ever get used to the few days after Christmas once all the magic and sparkle fades.
There is one good thing about the end of Christmas and that is a new year to look forward too. I have the most amazing holiday booked for May, I am obsessed with California, I have been for like forever, I have booked a two week holiday to Santa Monica, I will be filling my days with shopping, site seeing more shopping and I am going to do the three mile bike path from Santa Monica to Venice Beach. I am beyond excited and need the first five months of the year to fly by.
I don’t know about you guys but I am so bad at keeping New Years resolutions the only one ever I ever made and kept was giving up smoking. This year I just want to stay true to myself and be happy. So here’s to a rocking ‘n” rolling 2013 xo
